Check out my new look! I got bored with the pink and black thing. So, welcome to the improved site! I can't promise that I'll post all the time, but we'll see what my free time will allow.

Yesterday I went to Hobby Lobby to pick up a birthday present for my now 17 year old sister! The chain is owned by Christians, so they were giving away this free book called "The Case for Easter." It is an excerpt from the book, "The Case for Christ" by the amazing and talented Lee Strobel. I definitely recommend The Case for Christ even though I have never read it. I have read a different book by him that dealt with understanding and reaching out to unchurched people. Way cool. Anyway.

The Case for Easter is so awesome. He deals with several questions about Jesus' death and ressurection. The WHOLE Christian faith is based on the fact that Jesus did indeed die and RISE again. If these 2 facts were not true, then our faith is worthless.

So, since Lee is a journalist and former atheist, he decided to research and see if what Christians claim about Jesus is true or not. Anyway, to my point. The first guy he talks to is a forensic doctor who helped convict the serial killer John Wayne Gacy. He asks him about the physical trama that Jesus endured before and during the cross. Lee wanted to find out if Jesus really did die. Maybe he actually lived through it and "rose" again. Maybe it was fake, a hoax. Many people claim that Jesus didn't really die, so the whole resurrection was an elaborate show. But, the doctor proved that there is no way that Jesus, or anyone, could survive. And, he uses really interesting medical facts to prove it and points out different passages in the bible that reveal the trama Jesus is suffering.

It was hard to read, but the doctor explained what Roman torture is like; what being flogged is like. This is what got me: "The back would be so shredded that part of the spine was sometimes exposed by the deep, deep cuts. The whipping would have gone all the way from the shoulders down to the back, the buttocks, and the back of the legs. It was just terrible....As the flogging continued, the lacerations would tear into the underlying skeletal muscles and produce quivering ribbons of bleeding flesh...The sufferer's veins would experience tremendous pain and go into hypovolemic shock."

I just think it is AMAZING that a human being could survive this torture. 39 lashes, or more "depending on the mood of the soldier applying the blows." I heard somewhere that most people go into shock after 6-9 lashes. Can you imagine
more? This is only part of the torture Jesus endured before the cross itself!

Anyway, I guess I should have a point to this. After all this suffering and torture, mentally, spiritually, and no doubt physically, Jesus ROSE FROM THE DEAD! He LIVES! How amazing is that? JESUS WON! WE WIN! SIN IS DEAD! Not only did he rise, he rose with victory. Wow. Imagine. Imagine watching him die on the cross, barely recognizing the piece of flesh hanging there, beaten beyond recognition. Imagine seeing Jesus 3 days later, fully ALIVE! WELL! HEALED!

THIS is the savior I worship. THIS is the man who KILLED my sin, so that I could be with him and worship him and live life to the fullest in him FOREVER! HALLIEGHLUIA! THAT is MY GOD! Who is yours?
